It is always important to remember one’s roots. The Ancestors who came before us, whose thousands of loves have led to our existence in this realm, deserve to be venerated. We also need to be able to evolve, not holding ourselves back because tradition is being held as a high standard of measurement for worthiness. Without the ability to evolve, we would not have survived the last ice age, let alone the ones that happened before that one (there is scientific evidence that points to previous ice ages in pre-historic times).
I mentioned in my previous blogs that I started out as an Air Witch, and that I was trained by my mother and my grandmother, both of whom were also Air Witches. I also mentioned that later in life I connected with the Spirit of my paternal grandmother, who was a very powerful Water Witch, and that she helped me to unlock my inner Water Witch, which was part of my heritage as well. Along the path of my lifetime I have explored all aspects of witchery. I am extremely drawn to all things ancient, and discovering more and more about the ancient practices and how they have trickled down into our modern world fascinates me. It also helps me to connect the dots when it comes to my natural inclinations with magical practices. It is nice to know that I am not just making this stuff up. I am REMEMBERING. My entire life I have been remembering. It could be genetic memory, or it could be past life memory, or it could be memory based upon the magical essence that is the planet upon which we live. No matter which way it happens, the memories come and work their way into what I am already doing.
In essence, I am weaving them all together. That is what a Weaver Witch does. We don’t limit ourselves to just one way or another way, basing our potential on limited access to energies that are actually abundantly available. We honor and receive all of those energies and allow them to flow through us in order to maximize the magic we are performing.
At first I thought perhaps I was breaking some sacred rule in exploring all aspects instead of just focusing upon one or another. But I came to realize, sooner than later (thankfully), that there really are no rules. Being gifted or capable in one element or another is not something that is based upon traditions that belong to one or another culture. The elements flow through all of us. This is what universality really is. When we come to accept universality in magical practices, in shamanic practices, in healing practices and so on, we come to understand that there are many more bridges than we ever thought there could possibly be. Elemental magic is something that often gets expressed one way or another in traditional practices. But those practices did not invent or own the elements. Those elements flow through the veins of every one of us. They are our birthright, no matter what culture, tradition, gender, sex, or race we ended up being born into this time around.
I would like to take a moment to address some myths about Weaver Witches. First off, there is the myth that only a Weaver Witch is capable of creating a new spell, and all other witches are limited to spells that have been passed down through the generations. This is pure fiction. Any witch of any form can create a spell. And we do. And they work. So, no, that is not something that only a Weaver Witch can do. Secondly, a Weaver Witch is not like the character of Q on Star Trek: The Next Generation. We are not omnipipant. We are human. And we do not live forever. Someone actually said to me once that Weaver Witches can be hundreds of years old and only appear to be in their 20’s. Needless to say, I laughed. We do not live for hundreds of years. But we do come back into this world via reincarnation when we need to. Thirdly, Weaver Witches are not exceptional and rare. There are a LOT of us in the world, whether all of us recognize ourselves as Weaver Witches or not.
So, how do we weave the magic together? First off, this requires time and attention. So often people get caught up in their busy lives and forget to take the time to learn and to experience the magic around us. Reading up on magical practices helps. There are so many to choose from! The thing is to not limit yourself to one way or another, and definitely not limit yourself to any dogma. Yes, dogma exists within magical practices. For example, the three-fold rule of “Whatever we do comes back three-fold.” This is untrue. Yes, I said what I said. Yes, we can reap what we sow, but we cannot limit ourselves by fearing what might come back to us. The truth is that we are all free agents in the Universe. As such, we make our own decisions and yes, we also live with the outcomes of those decisions. Instead of inaction motivated by fear of consequences, we can choose a course of action that shifts things within us and around us. And then we can also reap the BENEFITS. Another dogmatic belief is that we are not supposed to use our magic for our own benefit. WRONG. We need to use magic to develop ourselves in a multitude of ways. And yes, there are professional witches, shamans, healers and so forth. Accepting payment for work done for another does not in any way negate the quality of the work that has been done. And who is to say that we are not allowed to cast a money spell or a healing spell for ourselves? That is nobody’s business other than our own. Gate keepers really annoy me because they limit other practitioners with their small-mindedness. Having said that, it is important to also think ethically when working magic. It is not about “harm none.” But it is about, “Is this warranted?”
Spending time learning is one part of weaving all the magic together. Another essential part is spending time in silence. This practice tends to one’s soul level. Instead of bombarding yourself with screen time immediately upon waking, try taking a moment and feeling gratitude for the fact that you have another day to enjoy. And then spend at least 20 minutes without speaking. Two hours is also fine in this instance. The silence, when extended, is extremely beneficial. It allows us time to transition from the dream time into the waking world. That way our awareness of everything around us, from the perspective of the observer, becomes crystal clear. This also allows us more of an opportunity to remember our dreams and the messages contained within them. Then we can process those messages before getting on with our day. Something the silence also promotes is the ability to become aware of the air moving in and out of our bodies. This brings us into a more Zen state of mind. A minute of that awareness will do more for us than a day of creative visualization because is focuses and centres us.
Once you have begun training yourself in these techniques, it will be important to then begin weaving together all of the elements into whatever spell or veneration you choose. For example, when I do spellwork or set up my altar for venerating the ancestors, I make sure to include something from each element. The Air uplifts, the Water deepens, the Fire motivates, and the Earth grounds it. This may look as simple as having incence, a bowl of water, a candle and a crystal on the altar upon which I am working. If you are suffering from allergies or have pets around your altar, you can use substitues for the incense. One of my common substitues is a feather. But with animals this can get destroyed rather quickly because the poor little critters just cannot help themselves. So instead I would use an Asian fan.
When doing cauldron work I may also have fire water (99% Isopropyl Alcohol) in the cauldron, drop in a stone, drops of Blessed Water or Sea Salt, herbs or spices, and so on. Each item would also represent the elements, combined for maximum impact on the spell. I would also choose crystals and herbs etc. that correlate with the purpose of the spell.
A Weaver Witch also needs to get acquainted with the fine energy threads that connect everything throughout the Universe. This is the element of Aether (the Fifth Element), which some simply refer to as “Spirit.” These threads can be in multiple colors and are much like a spider’s web. They are often refered to as the “Dream Weave.” When the Weaver Witch becomes aware of these threads and starts to work with them they can eventually master weaving them to form a reality, much like what affirmations can do in manifestation processes. But the threads connect everything to each other, so it is more than just manifesting for oneself. It is more like being a weaver of all reality. Again, this comes with epic proportions of responsibility. It is, therefore, important to start with small things and gradually work your way up to bigger things. And keep the focus on YOU, not on anyone or anything else. That way you are not manipulating others with your magic. You are simply working on self-improvement. Need an example? I happen to have a few, but will share one right now.
When I was starting my journey into becoming a Weaver Witch/Shaman, I was also working on correcting a pattern that was established a long time ago in my family. This pattern had to do with the belief that anyone who had money was somehow unscrupulous. Talk about setting oneself up for POVERTY! I knew that this was a belief that had to be changed, so I found the thread that it rested on. I was about to disentangle that thread when one beside it resonated with my father’s voice saying to me in the past, “You will never stand on your own two feet.” Needless to say, that one got snipped immediately. Since doing this type of Weaver Witch healing work times of scarcity have been quite short-lived. I am no longer held back by the multi-generational belief that prosperity means crookedness and I no longer have any feelings of guilt around making money from the work that I do as a Shaman.
The threads of reality can also be utilized to create physically empowered energy. A simple example of this is when I am doing energy healing work for someone. I may be drumming and chanting as I circle around the person, but if I sense a need from them to have comfort given, I may create an energetic hand that rests upon their shoulder. Both of my hands are busy, so why not manifest a third hand from the tapestry of the Universe to serve the purpose? Or, if they show signs of an energy connection (again, the tapestry) to a Spirit Guide or Ancestral Spirit, I may use that thread of connection to invite that Spirit to assist and then they are the ones who place a hand on the person’s shoulder.
Another way in which the threads can be utilized is for anchoring. We often are told that we need to anchor and ground through our base chakra and our feet. Yes. This works quite well. However, it is also possible, by projecting threads of energy through your fingers, your elbows, your knees and so on to anchor and ground with that. And it does not always have to be into the ground. When studying Yoga, for awhile I was rather tipsy when doing the tree pose. I found it nearly impossible to ground and anchor through my feet or my base chakra while trying to balance. However, I was easily able to steady myself by sending threads of energy through my elbows into the floor, and then through my fingers into the ceiling. Imagine Spider Man with webs moving out to anchor onto walls etc. Except those threads are chanelled through from the Dream Weave. As a Weaver Witch one can do that. Sometimes it is about finding out that you possibly can and then that knowledge activates the ability. Sometiimes it is about learning about the possibility and then having to do a lot of practice to get it right. Either way, it is something that is available to you.
Some folks will think that this all sounds too fantastical. They can entertain the possibility of an Earth Witch utilizing the energy of a crystal, but a Weaver Witch grounding via threads of energy in any direction whatsoever is too much for them. But let me ask you…what if the crystal is not present at the moment of need? Someone who is limited to just using Earth Witch techniques would be hooped. A Weaver Witch can call on the energy of that crystal from afar, or even from a photo in a book. The threads of reality connect all things. Therefore, the energy is available at all times in any way possible.
I believe that we all have the potential to become a Weaver Witch. It is a matter of being open-minded enough to play with the energies and find out what you can really do and what you need to work some more on developing. Limiting oneself to only one path, regardless of what that path may be, will often lead to an eventual dead end. But if we become accustomed to utilizing a multitude of paths the options become endless.
