I am also including some titles of books that are Shamanism adjacent. So you will find titles of books on everything from Shamanism to Witchcraft to Chakras and Self-Help and so on. I will be adding to this library of suggestions as I go, so do check in from time to time as there may be new recommended reading!

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene

By Jean-Yves Leloup

Inner Traditions

Perhaps no figure in biblical scholarship has been the subject of more controversy and debate than Mary Magdalene. As the first witness to the Resurrection, Mary was considered by the apostle John to be the founder of Christianity. In most theological studies she has been depicted as a reformed prostitute, the redemmed sinner who exemplifies Christ’s mercy. Today’s reader can ponder her role through references in the four canonical gospels and in the Gnostic gospels of Philip, Thomas, Peter, and Bartholomew rejected by the early Christian church. Mary’s own gospel is among these Gnostic texts but until now has remained unknown to the public at large.

Orthodox theologian Jean-Yves Leloup’s translation of the Gospel of Mary from the Coptic and his profound commentary on this text are presented here for the first time in English. What emerges from this important source text and commentary is a renewal of the sacred feminine in the Western spiritual tradition and a new vision for Christian thought and faith throughout the world.

The 21 Lessons of Merlyn: A Study in Druid Magic and Lore

By Douglas Monroe

Llewellyn Publications

The 21 Lessons of Merlyn is a complete introductory course in Celtic Druidism, packaged within the framework of 21 suthentic and expanded story-lessons. These stories depict the training and initiation of the historic “King” Arthur by the authentic Merlyn-the-Druid, one of the last great champions of Paganism whose intercession within the dawning age of Christianity helped shape the mystically powerful and unique form of the Christian Church on the British Isles.

Each story is followed by a detailed ritual application of the key concept behind Merlyn’s lesson. As you follow Arthur’s apprenticeship from his first encounter with Merlyn in the woods at Tintagel, through his battles and vision quests, to his anointing as Priest-King of Britain at Stonehenge, you will be studying your own program of Druid teachings based on the actual, never-before-published 16th-century manuscript entitled The Book of Pheryllt.

Inner Traditions of Magic

By William Gray

Samuel Weiser, Inc.

This is a complete book about magic: what it is, and how we can use it to become spiritually conscious and more self-responsible. Drawing upon ancient traditions of magic, William Gray presents a lucid and complete exposition for the modern reader, with rituals that are newly formulated and devoid of archaic phrases. Gray warns us that magic is not something to be dabbled in, it is not “for the masses.” Magic is for people who need to evolve away from and beyond the “mass mind” level, who aim to become their true Selves. This takes personal courage. As Gray tells us, “Every soul is its own star. That is magic. Not some cold indifferent isolation of selfish seclusion, but a full realization of the responsibilities placed in every evolving entity to become what we will within us.” Gray has a rare gift for clarifying difficult concepts for the student on the path.

The concept of healing with music is very ancient indeed. The Mystery Schools of Egypt, Greece and Rome understood that vibration is the fundamental active force in the universe and developed specific chants and tones for healing and achieving altered states of consciousness.

Healing Sounds examines the capacity of sound to affect us on all levels – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. There is no sound as pure as that of harmonics, and Healing Sounds is the first book to explain how to benefit from their profound healing and transformative powers, from both the scientific and spiritual viewpoints.
