To Live a Life

I find that the mundane can be boring. If I had to spend my entire life thinking in terms of “normal” it would slowly, but surely, kill me. I prefer to think in more colorful terms. It really is more about how one chooses to look at something. For example, if I have started out to go somewhere and realize that I forgot something that I wanted to bring, there is no harm in turning around to retrieve it…unless you are already on a plane and it has taken off. Then it is a matter of sitting back and relaxing because there is nothing you can now do about it anyway. When you reach your destination you can see if you can buy it there. If, however, I am turning back to go get the thing I forgot, then I see it as a possible avoidance of, say, a car crash that might have happened if I just kept going. Things like that have actually happened where something disastrous took place exactly where I was going to be at the time it happened, but I had turned back or decided to stop to pick up some coffee or whatever. This is real, not imagined.

It is something that has happened a number of times, so it is something that I know to be true. But it is not just about avoiding things that may or may not happen. It is also about just living your life. I like to be in attendance for my life. That is why I notice things that many do not. I am not going about my life completely oblivious to what else is going on around me. Sure, I might miss one or two things along the way. But for the most part, I am quite perceptive and can accurately read between the lines in most situations. This is what makes many not understand me.

You see, once I know something, even if that something is not outright stated, I trust that I now know that and thus respond to it. If, for example, I get a creepy vibe off of a person, I do not fool myself into thinking that they have done nothing to show me that they are not a stand up citizen of the world. Their creepy vibe tells me everything that I need to know. Folks have seen me as quite social and engaging, and then suddenly it is like a switch got flipped when someone walks into the room and I immediately exit. My late former father-in-law used to say, “Well, if Trent, of all people, doesn’t like him then we really need to pay attention, because he tends to like everyone.” He was correct…about that. He did not have to understand what it was I was responding to, he just knew that I knew things and would respond accordingly. By the way, whenever I have received a creepy vibe off of someone that absolutely everybody else thinks is the SHIT, the person has always proven me right down the road. So I do not care what others think. If the creep vibe is there, it is because the creep lies within that person.

It is alright to live a life that others do not understand. In fact, I highly recommend it. That way we are not just drones buzzing away like little robots through our lives. It is much more fulfilling to wear bright colors, to bask in the sun, to dance in the rain, to howl at the moon, and to trust your vibes. It does not matter if others don’t get what you are passionate about. Passion is personal, and not all passions are for every individual. For example, I have a thing for Knick knacks and beauty as well as the more strange and whimsical types of Knick knacks. I am what some might refer to as a collector. Although I do not have everything on display all the time (that would be overwhelming even for me) I do have a LOT of things scattered here and there to invite the eye to see and the mind to consider. What if a sorceress with a lynx skull head actually existed? What if we were to meditate on mushrooms and see where that consciousness can take us without even ingesting any? What if our ancestors are walking with us every day and guiding and protecting us? What if Easter bunnies actually existed? If I rub that Aladdin’s lamp over on the shelf, will a Jin pop out in a cloud of smoke? If I hug that tree will I hear it say, “I love you too”? Okay, that last one is not about Knick knacks, but about how we can see the beauty and magic in nature itself, but it was worth mentioning.

I remember a neighbor asking me if I needed help getting rid of a crow that rested on my shoulder while I was gardening. I declined the offer, but was also aware that his offer of assistance said a lot about how he viewed nature and wild birds and animals. I think of them respectfully and joyfully when something like that happens. As long as I don’t need to fear for my life I am all good. But many people in my life don’t understand that aspect of my personality. They are more concerned with the status quo and keeping things under their control. I am more of a Bohemian and love to see things get a little crazy now and then. I find it delightful and invigorating. Yet I also have my quiet side that enjoys just sitting and reading a book. I don’t have to explain these parts of myself to anyone. I can simply enjoy the experience of being me and doing, or not doing, whatever is at hand. And because I get bored with the mundane things, I tend to make the mundane things more enjoyable. I listen to music while I cook and sing along. I thank my home for being so awesome whenever I vacuum or dust. I meditate while hand washing dishes. This is all a part of living a life that I choose to live as magically as possible. I hope you, my dear readers, might do the same in whatever way suits you.
