It was brought to my attention recently that, although I have written about Water Witchery and Water Witches, I have not yet written about the other elemental witches. So, I decided to dedicate a post for each and more!
As I mentioned in my post “Are You a Water Witch?” I was raised and trained by my mother and my grandmother in the art of Air Witchery, because they were both Air Witches. I must also mention that we all have the potential to be capable of elemental magic with any and all of the elements. But we usually have one element that we are born into, and sometimes that one is what resonates for us. But sometimes it is not. I was born into Air Witchery and was naturally very good at it. But later I became aware that part of my heritage, of which I knew nothing, was the flow of Water Witchery. I picked this up extremely easily, likely because it is a form of magic that also courses through my veins.
So what are some of the components or signals that we get that may indicate that we are an Air Witch? First let me remind people that the element of Air is, in terms of corespondences, the element of the mind. Therefore, a lot of the Air element has to do with psychic abilities. Here are a few to consider:
- Do you pick up on the vibe in the room in various circumstances? Most Air Witches will have this happen ALL….THE….TIME. It doesn’t matter if it is a small gathering, a sports event, or even just walking through a mall. We tend to get a “hit” off of everything around us. This is why Air Witches must attend to their grounding. Without grounding all the hits one receives will make you light headed, scattered, and feeling high levels of anxiety and likely cause migraines.
- Do you take comfort in the sound of the breeze blowing through the leaves of the trees? These are wind whispers and they can communicate a multitude of things if you stop and listen. Pay attention to the feelings you get inside as you do.
- Have you ever felt that you have been able to direct the wind? Air Witches can often do that. For example, travelling through a storm, you can “cut a path” safely through the direction of the air current.
- Sound can be a catalyst for change for you. The ringing of a bell, the sound of wind chimes, the sound of a singing bowl, the words, cadence and melody of a song or chant, or even of the songs of birds.
- Birds tend to flock to you instead of away from you. I have had an owl tap me on the shoulder with its wingtip as I walked through a field. I have had crows land on me or hop onto my shoulder. I have had ravens seek refuge at my home when they flew in from the fire region up north. They know. I have also had domesticated birds enjoy my company as much as I have enjoyed theirs. When I go out in the Spring and play my flute, I have had robins gather to listen. I have also had magpyes dive bomb someone who was acting aggressive towards me. Air Witches will also be drawn to feathers that have been shed. If an Air Witch finds a shed feather, it is meant for you. I have had feathers drop into my hands (I talk with my hands) while walking in the downtown core. One thing to note is that feathers also carry with them mites. So if possible, pick them up with gloved hand. If not possible, then wash hands immediately, use hand sanitizer, and soak the feathers for at least 30 seconds completely submerged in rubbing alcohol. This will disinfect the feather and will kill off any mites. When you are done soaking, lay the feather on a paper towel or tea towel to dry. Do not rub the feather dry or you will risk damaging the feather.
- Do you experience telekinesis? This is something I inherited from my grandmother. She was able to move objects with the wave of her hand. My oldest sister and I have been able to do the same from a very early age. For a period of time during puberty it went somewhat wild. My mother thought it was a poltergeist, but the witch friend she had come in to help with it pointed out that it was my air element going crazy at night whenever I had a nightmare. My room would suddenly become very active with articles flying all around. Eventually that would extend into other areas of the house. The kitchen cupboars would fly open, the drawers would fly open, and articles would eject from their resting spot on shelves and in drawers…all while nobody was in the room because, until all the commotion began, everyone was sound asleep. Now, I use it in my healing practice, helping energy to find its proper path through the body to promote healing. I also find it pops up when I am in danger or when I am enraged by something. I have prevented tragic accidents by moving vehicles out of the way of each others’ paths. I have also repelled vehicles that were spinning toward me after being hit in an intersection. My sister, who was also telekinetic, stopped a car that was going to run her down, the driver of which had been harassing her at work. He had a broken nose from the impact with the steering wheel of his car after running into “nothing at all,” just the forcefield she set up to stop his car. This was before airbags were the law, so…and needless to say, he deserved it.
- Are you able to predict outcomes when nobody else sees what is coming down the pike? Getting precognitive “hits,” or even just being able to predict patterns that others perhaps do not see, is part of being an Air Witch.
- Do you get visions of things? Many Air Witches are clairvoyant, clairaudient, clairsentient and so on. I receive visions of things past, present and future. But I also will get signals from other senses, such as the scent of something. Energy has scent as much as it has visual and emotional emissions. I will also hear spirits speak to me. It is sometimes not convenient at all when they do. Sometimes it comes as quite a surprise. The trick, I have found, is to not respond unless you are in a safe environment in which others will not think you to be completely off your rocker. I had a former girlfriend who did not learn how to not respond in the exact moment. People thought she was completely psycho. She wasn’t. She was simply gifted but lacking discernment.
- Do you communicate with Spirits and Guides, Angels, ghosts etc? Many Air Withces are also mediums who communicate with the dead, be they ancestors or just earth-bound spirits. Connecting with them and with Guides and even spirit animals is all part and parcel of Air Witchery. Being an Air Witch also gives you the ability to commune more easily with deities, should you choose to.
- Do you dreamwalk into others’ dreams at times? Not every Air Witch is a Dream Walker. That is a deeper form of Air Witchery. This particular set of gifts I inherited from my father, whose father was also a Dream Walker. One of my cousins was also gifted in this area. I have not researched the origins of this enough, but it seems to me that this particular gift came down through the male bloodlines. This is interesting for me because some of my male ancestors were also what would now be considered hypnotherapists. The connection between hypnotherapy and Dream Walking is intimate. A Hypnotherapist uses the subconscious mind to explore troubles and turbulations and find ways of helping to heal those. Dream Walkers enter someone’s subconscious mind while they themselves are in the dream time. This is so that we can help a person to heal fears and traumas and find solutions to difficult situations in their dreams. Some of us are able to do this while both the person and ourselves are wide awake. That is more rare. Dream Walkers can also communicate with one another throughout time and space through the dream time, or dream weave. That means communication with anyone, anytime, anywhere on the planet or throughout the Universe. Yes, I do know aliens exist. Dream Walking can, however, become addictive. Those who become addicted tend to transition from being a Dream Walker to becoming a Dream Stalker, haunting people in their dreams, which is both unethical and extremely dangerous for the person being haunted. Dream Walkers do develop skillsets in dealing with/eliminating the influences of Dream Stalkers. This is eveidence of how anything….ANYTHING…that is used for help and heal can also, in the wrong hands, be used to harm.
- Do you have precognitive dreams? Many Air Witches experience precognition, be it through dreams or waking visions. That does not mean that they must do anything about preventing anything from happening. It is more about helping the Air Witch to be prepared for what is to be. Many oracles throughout time have been Air Witches. So predicting the future and sometimes communicating it in coded language is part of it all.
- Do you communicate telepathically? Sometimes I still think a person has said something to me because I hear their thoughts, which sound like their voice. This one I try to be extremely ethical with because I feel that everyone is allowed to have their own thoughts without being spied upon. There are some things, after all, that are just NONE OF MY BUSINESS. So I have had to learn to control it and, at times, quiet it completely when people are thinking way too loudly. As a teenager sitting in a choir and singing, I got visions, and sounds, like a full HD video of a couple who was listening to the choir. All of their “activities” the night before came rushing in. That was when I really doubled down on the boundaries when it came to the telepathic stuff. I am sure I was beet red as I was sitting there, trying to sing the song.
- Do you get visions and messages when watching smoke from a firepit or a smudge stick or an incense stick rise in the air? Often Air Witches find themselves lulled into trance while watching smoke rise. This is because smoke is one of the correspondences with the element of Air. Even how smoke cascades in a backflow incense burner can do the trick! Air Witches will often discover that if they whisper their intent into an incense stick and then light it, the smoke will carry that intent to the ears of the Universe. The Universe will then respond. When I do long distance healing work I will whisper the intent of “Healing now goes to…(fill in the name)” and ask Spirit to assist in the healing of this person. I then go on to perform the long distance energy healing while the incense continues to carry my intent to the Universe, and the Universe empowers the healing. When I smudge my home I will speak the intent of cleansing and healing for the space, filling it with love, light and laughter. Then I carry the smudge all around my home, using a feather to brush the smoke into every nook and cranny. The vibration of the home lifts up immediately.
- Do you find that when you whistle things around you shift and change? One of the things my sister and I used to do is get each others’ attention with a whistle, even if we were miles and miles apart from each other. Then, once the attention was achieved, we would telepathically communicate messages back and forth. Sometimes, when doing this with a friend, I will whisper the friend’s name. He or she will then answer in a whisper and then the communication begins. There are beliefs that one should never whistle at night, but I have never found this to be problematic at all.
- Do you see symbols and sigils that nobody else can see? You can use those for access to energies that nobody else will be able to tap into. You can even trace the sigils in the air to activate them. Air Witches have used this method for thousands of years. I have a particular sigil that I trace over my clients when I am beginning their energy treatment. I do this four times, once for each direction. What this sigil basically means is “Magic and Healing move through here.” And then we begin the energy work.
- I would be remiss if I did not speak for a moment about intuition, in particular “mother’s intuition.” Now, please do not think by this label that fathers do not have intuition. We certainly do. Statistically speaking, however, women have, over time immemorium, been much more in tune with it, especially when it comes to their offspring. My theory on this is that because a baby lives within the mother’s womb for months there becomes a bond through the shared blood. Yes, the father’s blood is also a factor, but the mother’s blood is what sustains the baby inutero. After the baby is born that bond does not just vanish. It continues on. It becomes more enhanced with the mother’s milk as it nourishes the baby as well. Yes, there are many who do not breast feed. The intuitive bond is still there, but it does have a wee tad less of a charge. Mother’s intuition is, in my calculation, a blend of Air magic and Water magic, in that the Air magic connects the consciousness, and the water magic (blood is part of water magic) connects the unconscious and the soul level. This is why it is such a strong factor. However, you do not have to be an Air Witch or a Water Witch to experience Mother’s Intuition. Also, remember that the conception began with the exchange of bodily fluids (water magic), so never discount the Father’s intuition based purely upon gender biases.
This is a lot to contemplate. There are most likely a number of other signs that you may be an Air Witch, but they are not coming to mind at the moment. Allow yourself to take it slow and consider what your experiences have been to date, what they could possibly be if you decide to explore possibilities, and what you might like to develop within the vast range of Air Magic. It will certainly not happen overnight, especially if you grew up in an environment that preached that witches are evil, magic is evil, and there is one and ONLY ONE way to be in the world. You have to gradually set those belief systems down over time. But as you do you will find that the magic actually lives within you. You are not needing anyone else in the world to “shepherd” you in any way or to tell you what you are allowed to or not allowed to believe. Let your personal experiences guide you.
