Wondering Through the Wilderness

As we walk through life we come to realize that life has many lessons to offer. These lessons are brought to us through teachers, books and experiences. Although I have had some incredible teachers throughout my life, I have to admit that my experiences are what taught me the most along the way.

The thing is that those experiences can often feel like wondering through the wilderness. Each new experience brings with it uncharted terrain and uncertain outcomes. This can often make a person feel like they are free falling through a very dark place. If we have patience with ourselves and allow ourselves some grace, we are actually able to walk through those experiences.

Some folks like to consider themselves a “work in progress.” I do not consider myself that at all. I am fully grown and I am a human being. I am on a healing and a learning journey through life. I am not incomplete. I am fully formed and complete in my own right. But I am also evolving into…whatever I become as a fully formed human being. So I don’t diminish myself by calling myself a “work in progress.” I honor myself by refering to myself as an “ever evolving human.” This comes with many challenges. The thing about evolution is that it is not about developing what was not there to begin with. It is about shedding what is no longer useful and making room for the stuff that is more appropriate to who we are becoming.

That wilderness that we walk through can be frightening. But the thing is that it is very rare to find what we need, and what matters most, in times of comfort. We find our faith in ourselves and our greatest strengths in times of uncertainty. Those times challenge us to step up and face whatever it is that is scaring us. We may be on our knees at the moment, but that brings us closer to the earth and to the groundedness that is established in that closeness. With that groundedness comes STRENGTH. And so, we rise up, stronger than ever and with the determination of our ancestors as well as ten thousand warriors. So, rise up. RISE UP!!
