Change. It is a tough pill to swallow at times. Yet it is the only constant thing in our world. The recent events that have unfolded with the Presidential election in the United States is a great example of that. I trust that it will all work out in some way. It certainly has gotten me thinking about our species and how we create our world with our thoughts. I also sometimes wonder if any alien species in outer space would actually waste its time on a planet of tribal warfare such as ours. If I were them…well I would just keep heading past and actually speed up on the way buy.
Why is change so difficult for us? I have a theory on that…one that some may or may not agree with, but it is a theory. For change to occur in our world it requires that we shift ourselves. We have to become the change that we want to see. That shift can be incredibly difficult especially in the face of those around us who resist said change. Not everyone has to think and do the same as us. Sometimes this happens within a community…a nation…and sometimes this happens within our very own families.
The only people we can really change is ourselves. Those who are frightened by change are those who are not willing to do the inner work. And truly I feel that on the whole, the human race is quite lazy. If it does not have to make changes then it is perfectly comfortable with the status quo, even if that status quo is dysfunctional and toxic. As a human race, we also crave power. So if there is something about the status quo that allows us to have privilege over another, we tend to gravitate toward that…even if we know on a deep soul level that it is just not right. But in so doing we are harming ourselves on very deep levels, as well as those around us.
It takes an open mind to be able to embrace new ideas and thoughts and ways of being. Closed mindedness is something that will always hold one back. I remember learning somewhere along the way that the mind is like a parachute; it tends to work best when it is wide open. I know that someone along the way, someone important or influential, likely said that, but I don’t know who that was, otherwise I would credit them that. But the thought stuck. That is what is actually important. (And if any of my thoughts stick with you and change something in a positive fashion but you don’t, over the years, remember who said it or wrote it I will not be offended!) The opposite would also then be true. If you have a closed mind, then you are going to drop like a rock.
Now I have often said that if it were not for the capacity of adaptation of the human race we would not have survived the Ice Age. So I think that when push comes to shove people are quite willing to make the changes and adaptations that they see are needed. My question is…why does it have to come to such an extreme situation in order to light a fire under our proverbial butts to do so? The only logical conclusion is that we are lazy. We have to stop that. We have to start being exuberant in our approach to the “new”. Whether we believe it is good or whether we believe it is bad, we will very likely be right, because what we believe will become our reality.
It all starts with you…it all starts with me. As each one of us takes on the daunting task of self-change we create a ripple that grows forth throughout the planet and, I believe, throughout the entire Universe(s). So if we can make our personal changes we can and will see those changes manifesting in our world and our communities and in our families as well. My personal practice has to do with grounding myself, centering myself, and allowing myself to tune into the energy grid/consciousness of the Earth Herself. I lend positive healing energy to Her in that state (several times a day because after a while you don’t even have to work at it, it just becomes a natural flow) and then I watch as the world around me begins to take hold of that energy and respond in positive ways. This is how I flow with the changes in life and in our world. But it is also how we as individuals can contribute to the positive aspects of said changes.
Who knows? It may already have happened, but if not, perhaps one day one of those alien species might notice that things have gotten really quiet and serene on planet Earth. And maybe then they will want to do coffee with us…
