When I was growing up I had a mother and a grandmother who were both Air witches and who spent a lot of time training me in this area of magic. For that I will always be grateful. I also had another grandmother whom I never had the opportunity to meet because she died before I was born. She did, however, write a prophecy that included me in it. The mere fact that she knew about me before I was even conceived fascinated me. I knew that, although there were some pretty scary stories about her, she was obviously quite powerful. And then one day she orbed in from the spirit realm and from that moment on she has been watching over me, training me and guiding me in the mastery of Water Witchery.
There were so many clues that I was a Water Witch, but they were clues that I just did not recognize at the time. And recently I was speaking with a client who is also beginning to become aware of their own Water Witchery, helping them to understand what that means and what they can do with it. So then and there I decided that I would write a blog regarding Water Witchery so that, hopefully, it will help other Water Witches out there to discover who they are and to learn a bit about what to do with this gift. So, here are a few pointers:
The Moon
Ever since I can remember I have been drawn to the moon. Its phases, especially the full moon phase, have been felt in my blood. When it shines upon me I can feel the light tingle on my skin, much like the warmth of the sun is felt, but cool instead of warm or hot. The moon is a celestial body that influences the tides. I consider the tides to be not just of the oceans and seas, but also the tides within our own bodies. We all have ebbs and flows of various sorts. And, of course, we are all made up of mostly water. So, emotionally we are also influenced by the full moon. That is where the term “lunacy” comes from. The moon, however, does not just make us act “crazy” but also enhances our intuitive processes. The water element is all about the emotions, the intuition, and the soul energies. The moon governs over these energies within us. So, if you feel drawn to the moon and can feel it change things within you with its many phases, you just might be a Water Witch.
Plants
My home is full of house plants, and my garden is full of plants as well. I love to garden and I love to watch plants grow and flourish. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go out in the morning and give the flower beds their morning drink of water. As I water the plants I will often sing to them, or I may just talk to them and tell them how beautiful they are and thank them for growing so well for me. The more the flowers grow, the more food there is for the bees, butterflies, dragonflies, and hummingbirds. This way, there is more life force spread all around as they collect pollen or drink dew from the leaves and petals. Everything on this planet requires a certain amount of water to grow and flourish. Even cacti need it now and then. Water is what brings life to our planet. Well, that and the heat and light of the sun. They work together. So, while you are watering your plants, indoors or outdoors, allow yourself to become aware of this energy exchange. The very air we breathe depends upon plant life, so as we water them, they provide for us.
Bodies of Water
Water Witches are often drawn to bodies of water. These bodies of water can vary quite a bit. Some prefer oceanic beaches, some prefer lakes or rivers, others prefer swamps and bogs. Whatever the body of water is, a Water Witch will feel quite at home there. I am so fortunate to be within walking distance of our South Saskatchewan River. I enjoy spending time on the banks and, frankly, as much as possible, I will drive home along the river bank instead of taking a more direct route through heavy traffic. I find the drive to be extremely relaxing. The view cannot be beat. Visiting any one of our lakes is always a delightful experience for me.
Baths and Showers
Water Witches will find interesting things to do with water even when doing mundane tasks. For example, I like to now and then draw myself a bath with epsom salts and place crystals and herbs into the water. Then I soak in all that delicious energy. But most often what I have time for is a shower. In the shower I will allow myself to become aware of the water washing away the stress, tension and toxic energy of the day. I will also be aware, once those things are gone, of the water bringing a fresh energy to me. Standing under the shower and just allowing that process to take place is deeply relaxing and will put me into a meditative state quickly. Thus, I am able to have inspirations happen while just allowing the water to wash over me. The same thing happens when I am out in the rain, or when I am washing dishes by hand.
The Conscious Intelligence of Water
Dr. Masaru Emoto did a scientific study of water and took photos of water molecules that were exposed to particular intents. For example, if the water was exposed to the intent of, “I hate you,” the molecules would look ugly and sick. If the water was exposed to the intent of “Healing” then it would look like a fabulous snow flake. These results were replicable and varies in terms of results from particular intents. He wrote a book about it called The Hidden Messages of Water. I highly recommend that book for any budding Water Witch. And the reason I bring this up is because he scientifically proved what my grandmother was telling me for years. We can use water to heal ourselves, to heal our planet, and to connect on a deep soul level.
Witching for Water
There are a lot of techniques used to witch for water under the ground before deciding where to dig a well. Some use sticks, some use rods, some use crow bars, and so on. I have often found that I can simply sense it. Yes, sometimes I will use a witching tool to confirm it, but for the most part I can just feel where it is. My grandmother told me that most Water Witches can do that.
Snow and Ice
These are forms of water. They can be used in various ways. In ritual, I will often gather snow from outside (clean snow…not peed upon by a dog or anything like that) and utilize it as the water element in the rituals. If I have a part of my body that is ailing, I will sometimes take an ice cube out of the freezer, rub it on the part of my body that is ailing, then place the ice cube in a sink and allow it to melt away. As it does so my ailment also melts away. Or, on the other hand, sometimes I will place the toxic energy felt from a person into the water that is in an ice cube tray, freeze it, and then take the ice cube out and throw it as far away from me as possible (outside of course). Wherever it lands, it will break apart, melt, and go to the earth to be healed. But in the meantime it is no longer hooking into my energy field.
Moon Water
You can take a clear vessel of water outside (or onto a windowsill inside) where it will experience the light of the full moon shining upon it. This becomes Moon Water that can then be consumed or used to water plants, or utilized in ritual or in scrying (gazing at the water to “see”).
Scrying
It is important to use a black bowl for this purpose. Fill the bowl almost to the top, then gaze upon the water, allowing you eyes to go soft, like when you are day dreaming. Images will then come to you, if not from the water itself then just within your mind. This is called scrying. It is another level of vision or seeing that allows you to gaze into the past, present, future or even to see things that are at great distance or otherwise hidden. Mirrors and crystal balls can also be used for this purpose, as they are made from glass, which is made from crystals of sand, which are formed by water.
Crystals and Shells
Often Water Witches are drawn to crystals and healing stones. Remember that these earth elemental helpers are actually formed by the combination of water and minerals. Thus, Earth Witches and Water Witches alike will be drawn to them and be able to utilize their energy quite easily and naturally. The same can be said for shells and pearls. Water is a major factor in the development of these things, therefore they hold magical and practical energy that can be utilized by a Water Witch. Enhydro crystals actually have water trapped within them, so they become powerful allies for a Water Witch.
Sea Salt
There is no expiration date on Sea Salt. It has been around for thousands of years and will continue to be around for thousands more. It is a healthy salt (as opposed to table salt) that can be used for cooking, cleaning, and repelling negative energies and negative entities. It can also be used to make fresh water into salt water for those Water Witches who resonate more with the sea, but who don’t have immediate access to sea or ocean water.
Fountains and Aquariums
Water Witches will often need to have water in their environment indoors, so often they will have table fountains or aquariums in their homes, and sometimes both. Often they will have ponds and fountains in their yards and gardens. The sound of the water releases negative ions into the area, much like when the water laps up at the beach sand or river bank. Some Water Witches will purposefully seek out a home with an indoor or outdoor pool so that they can swim in water daily. For those who cannot afford such an abode, public pools are the way to go.
Emotions and the Soul
As mentioned earlier, the water element is the element of the emotions and of the soul. Water Witches will often be aware of the emotional temperature of the room upon entering. Don’t try to fool us by saying, “I’m fine.” We know you are not and that this is a lie. So just cut the crap and be honest about what you are feeling. We know anyway, but are unable to assist in any way unless you are open enough to at least talk about it. We are quite gifted with empathy and with understanding when it comes to the emotional landscape. Emotions are meant to flow, not be blocked up or closed off. That is why laughter ripples and tears flow. That is part of why we are here. Many Water Witches are also naturally gifted at communicating with earth bound souls and helping them to cross over. And some of us are naturally gifted when it comes to soul energy healing and soul retrieval.
Stirring
You may have a morning ritual involving tea or coffee or even juice. Whatever the morning drink is, consider this. Stir it counter clockwise to release negative feelings. I like to then dump the drink down the sink and then pour another cup or glass of it for consumption. Stir it clockwise to enhance positive feelings. Then drink. Many Water Witches are gifted when it comes to brewing teas and coffees that not only taste great but also smooth the body, mind and soul. When using teas, remember that the leaves needed water to be able to grow, and by adding water to them you are rehydrating them so that their medicine can be consumed and then become part of our water bodies.
Tinctures and Mists
One of my favorite things to do is to program water with intent and then place that water in a mist bottle and mist it either all over my body or all through my home. This raises the energy vibration of me and my home and all who dwell therein. I also enjoy using crystals to program water and then make tinctures out of that water, the drops of which can be added to a drink or taken directly under the tongue or even just applied topically. These tinctures are designed to promote healing and well-being on all levels.
Flowing
You have heard of the term, “Go with the flow” right? This is a specialty of Water Witches. We tend to understand the ebbs and flows of life itself. Everything comes and goes, pushes and pulls energy within us and around us, just like the moon creates ebbs and flows of the tides. When allowing ourselves to go with the flow, we know that there is nothing that life can present to us that we cannot handle. Sure, it may feels like a ride through the rapids at times. But we know that eventually the water will spill out into a calm river.
Water Breath
Deeply breathe in through the nose, hold, and then release out through the mouth. Water breath helps us to calm and center ourselves on an emotional level. As it does so we are able to access the deeper peace within our souls. This can be experienced by anybody, Water Witch or not.
Dreams
Dreams are often associated with the element of water. This is because the dream state is one that accesses our emotions and our soul energies. Water Witches are often gifted with the ability to dream, analyze dreams, and experience prophesies through prophetic dreams.
Weather Witchery
I used to think that nobody could influence the weather…until I got more acquainted with Water Witchery. Suddenly the clouds and rain held a much deeper meaning for me. Then I was introduced to spells that would create safe passage and found that, as a Water Witch, I was quite powerful when casting a spell like that when traveling through a nasty weather front. Winds would shift, clouds would part, and it would be like I had a calm alley through which to drive so that I would not be harmed by torrential rains or hail. I did, during a drought, call in the rain. That was when I was just becoming aware of my gift and had not really developed it to any great skill. Unfortunately, the rain clouds heard my call…and it rained for almost a month, thus flooding our property and our home. I was so grateful when I figured out how to make it stop. I really should have known that part before activating it in the first place. But sometimes the learning curve is somewhat vertical in nature.
Stirring Things Up
When in a balanced state, a Water Witch is able to stir things up and make it exciting simply by using humor as a vehicle for the water element. Remember, laughter ripples. We often have a deeper understanding of human nature and can, therefore, have a sharp sense of humor. When we are out of balance, we can stir things up with drama, Drama and more DRAMA. We become total shit disturbers who won’t stop until everyone around us is in tears. This is the toxic aspect of being a Water Witch. We have to be conscious of this so that we are not creating chaos, like a tsunami blasting through people’s lives. When in balance, our energy can be more like watching the full moon reflected over the water of a calm lake.
Staying Hydrated
As a Water Witch, know that it is important to remain hydrated. Becoming dehydrated is a slow and painful demise for a Water Witch. Hydration also means topical hydration. So feel free to take walks in the rain and make snow angels. All of that is a part of your well-being.
These are just a few things off the top of my head that I wanted to share with you. If you find that you are drawn to any or all of these, chances are that you just might be a Water Witch. Welcome! We have been waiting!
