Every now and then we all find ourselves in a situation where we have been misunderstood, be it marginally or extremely. What does one do with that sort of thing? Clarification is ultimately important. At least that is possible when the misunderstanding has been made clear to you. Sometimes it is not. That is when one has to start asking questions when the issue arises. Find out what the misconception might be and then strive for clarification. This happened for me the other day during a conversation with a friend. She is a very dear friend, so the work of clarification was quite easy. In many cases it is not so easy, but it is also not impossible.
So I was with this friend recently who works with Christ Consciousness. In our conversation she said that she understood that I was not into that stuff. I corrected her. I had to correct her misconception. Otherwise this could lead to a plethora of misunderstandings down the road. When it comes to Christ Consciousness, I am ALL OVER THAT. You see, I believe in love, and I believe in healing, and I believe in true connection to a Higher power.
But here is where I draw the line. Christianity. Why? Now for me to answer this, you have to understand that I am not at all one who hates all Christians. Quite the opposite. But as an organized religion, Christianity has done a LOT to ruin an otherwise perfectly running engine called “the world.” This has been felt by millions of people, not just myself. Any religion that preaches “Love thy neighbor” and then preaches that it is completely alright to hate another based on skin color, on gender, on sexual orientation and so on is just not worth my time. And believe me, I know that it is not just Christianity that does this.
I make a very clear distinction between Christianity and the actual Christ Consciousness. The Christ consciousness is about the connection to all, whereas Christianity is about divisiveness. I know that this statement will piss off a lot of folks. Understandable. None of us enjoy having the flaws of our belief systems pointed out. But seriously, organized religion has started wars, has been involved in the burning to death of innocent people in the fervor of the “witch hunts” and is currently involved in the trafficking of human beings. Organized religion has protected pedophiles and has stolen riches from its people. It has been involved in the abuse and murder of Indigenous people world wide and in slavery for centuries. None of this is part of Christ Consciousness.
I know that Jesus was not a Christian. Christianity came YEARS after his murder. I call it murder because that is what it was. The authorities did not want this hippie dude from a high ranking family to gain too much power or too many followers. So they had him murdered in the name of the law of that day. He was not even murdered for being different (the real reason) but was proported to be a criminal under other laws. So this inconvenient visionary was murdered, legally, in front of hundreds of people. Later on the story would go that he was sacrificed to cleanse us all of his sins. Rubbish. He was murdered because he was inconvenient. But that very white washing of the murder, years later, that was perpetuated by the Christians, served their political and religious purposes of coming into power. Yes, they were also oppressed by the Romans of the time. Nonetheless, whenever someone is martyred, there is sure to be an uprising of folks who will jump on the band wagon and try to escalate their own standing in an area where they are discriminated against. That is human nature. That is religious mentality. That is why I am unavailable to Christianity and organized religion.
I am available to love. I am available to healing. I am available to a Higher Power. But I refuse to call that Higher Power anything from any dogmatic belief system. And I do not need a religion to save me. I have my own personal relationship with that Higher Power and I certainly do NOT need any middle man to create anything more in that relationship. Middle men often just create chaos anyway…because it serves them well to do so. And then they get offended when one tells them that their participation in one’s spirituality is irrelevant. Poor things.
But something has ocurred to me while writing this. Honesty. People often can’t handle it. They freak out when someone speaks their mind and states their truth. Perhaps this is more what is behind the misconception that I am not into Christ Consciousness. I am sure that it is not just my friend who had that misconception. Because if one person thought that about me then the likelihodd is great that someone else may have as well. I am pretty honest about how I feel about organized religions. Some have told me that I should not “throw the baby out with the bath water.” I have told those who have said this that they need to grow up and realize that having critical thought does NOT blind one to spiritual truths, in fact it awakens one to them. And there are very few spiritual truths in religions. I do appreciate the ones that are there, but they are difficult to find amongst all the crowd control and manipulation and aligning with political agendas. But they are there. You just have to look really, Really, REALLY hard to find them. And in the meantime…just keep yourself aligned with Christ Consciousness. Because that is what will actually enrich your spiritual life far more than any church or temple will do.
